The sugar cane was during several centuries the main resource of the commune. Most of the agricultural lands are still devoted to it, but the industrial park of Jarry, in full expansion,is entirely built on the mangrove, and has become the economic center of Guadeloupe. At the end of the borough, below the place of the Town hall, a landing stage located at the edge of the lagoon, is the starting point of boats visiting the îlets of the Grand-Cul-de-Sac-Marin.
