Pointe Noire city of Guadeloupe

Pointe-Noire  which holds its name from the volcanic black rocks, is situated on the sea front. Coming from Deshaies, the first contact with the commune is the small harbour of Baillargent, just after the river of the same name. Beausoleil is the arrival point of the Baillargent trace (path), famous excursion beginning at Sofaïa.
Creole wooden houses and huts of fishermen are still there. The market located at the edge of the Caillou river remained a traditional place of meeting. Along the streets of the Republic and Saint Jean, various shops take part in the animation and invite people to stroll. In the opposite the typical church, the polychrome war memorial and its white soldier. The forest territories of this area and the activities turned towards wood, gave to Pointe-Noire its reputation of wood capital. While leaving the city, on the road to Bouillante, the Maison du Bois (House of Wood) deserves a visit. At Mahault the intersection with the road of the Traversée leads to the zoological gardens for a review on the fauna and the flora of the island
