Sainte-Anne which
name comes from the Austrian Queen Anne, needs to be carefully visited and the
beauty of the beaches, the charm of the borough, the magic of Grands Fonds are
as many pretexts to understand the softness of saint-anne life. Important
Tourist area thanks to the splendid beaches which borders it, its many
restaurants and its exceptional sites for sailing and fun-board, this part of
the Grande Terre presents a large variety of landscapes. Indeed, one of the
most interesting aspect of this place is the opposition between the coastal area
and the hinterland, in particular the area of Grands Fonds.
True jewel by its lagoon, the color of its water and the quality of its sand,
the municipal beach along the borough is a particularly animated place to relax
and have a walk. On the road to Saint-François, other superb beaches still
preserved or recently arranged allow the visitor to admire the beauty of the
site.
In the center of Sainte-Anne, the charming Schoelcher place with the
parish church, works of the architect Ali Tur, rebuilt after the
cyclone of 1928. The artisanal village is located at the entry of
the borough, in Gallas. Formerly Sainte-Anne was a large sugar
commune, in 1885 indeed, nearly 90% of its ground was devoted to the
sugar cane culture, and one can discover, having a walk, the
windmills reminding this former significant economic activity. A
visit in the hinterland allows to penetrate in the area of
Grands-Fonds which constitute a spectacular topographic unit. The
calcareous plateau was exposed to vertical rain and rivers erosion
creating very long corridors in which you can circulate along stiff
rock slopes giving on dry banks, covered with black clay. In this
mysterious maze, you can find splendid points of view.
