To
protect oneself
If
the majority of the stays do not pose any significant problem of health, some
precautions will enable you to avoid many concern or to compromise part of your
stay. The medical risks are not significant. The medical infrastructures are of
a very good level.
Mosquitos
Take care, the mosquitos are virulent and some of them are dangerous. The
bites make buttons like everywhere. But some transmit the Dengue. The Dengue is
a viral disease for which there is no vaccine, nor any drug. And the symptoms
are those of the influenza. One is very tired and weak with fever. The cure for
a Dengue without complication can last two to three weeks. There are 4 known
types of Dengue. To know some more about the dengue, visit the site of The
Conseil General of Guadeloupe. Provide with anti-mosquito spray or another
drug to move away these undesirable.
Yenyens
Yenyens
are very small mosquitos. They are on the beaches at the end of the day or in
the mangroves. Thus do not hesitate to use anti-mosquito in all circumstances.
The
Sun
The
sun can cause serious burns, and one does not always realize especially if the
beach is windy. It is necessary to prepare its skin before leaving and to avoid
a prolonged sunbath. The use of high protection sun lotion is essential, even in
the shade of the trees on the beach. Moreover the association heat/sun/dehydration
can be dangerous. Take along a hat and sunglasses.
The
Mancenilliers
The
mancenilliers are trees which push in abundance on the island. It is necessary
to take care of these trees, because their very acid sap is a poison. One should
not shelter under these trees when it's rainning because the acid sap can
burn the skin. Do not eat their fruits which look like small yellow apples.
There is no danger when it does not rain. Most of the time these trees are
announced by a cross painted in red on their trunks.
Feet
Avoid walking barefoot, because there is a risk of wound, difficult to cure in
tropical countries, and you can have digestive or cutaneous parasitic
infections.
