The tropical forest of the North of Martinique is composed of giant
trees (like the white gommier, the yellow mangrove, the large sheets chestnut,
the "acomat boucan", the mahogani with large sheets and the red wood carapate)
which reach 30 to 40 Meters (90 to 120 feet) high.
Less imposing and with
more known names, you will be able to see the mahogany tree, the "mountain"pink
bay-tree , the courbaril, the magniolia, the bamboo of Asia and the very
beautiful tree fern.
Flowers with saturated colors, in the country, is
a true paradise for painters and photographers: the "anthurium balisier" , the
"datura hibiscus", the porcelain rose and the silk tree; the "flamboyant and the
bougainvillea, the lily and the " coral ", the list is too long.
We incite
you to find them in the floral gardens like that of Balata. Star plants and
trees : coconut trees, the "tree of the traveller", the mancenillier (be careful
with its powerful and acid sap which burns terribly) and the
mangrove....
