Martinique

The northern part is most mountainous. The volcanic massif of the Montagne Pelée (1397m) (4190 feet), as well as the pitons of Carbet are covered by a very dense tropical forest. It is the part of the island where nature is most powerful. There is a large number of vegetable species sprinkled by some rivers and cascades descending the gullies until the black sandy beaches.

The central part, not far from Fort de France (prefecture) continues with the plain of Lamentin. Formerly zone of marshes and mangrove, it is now the place chosen by many industrialists to develop a strong economic activity.

The south of the island is much more cut out. Small bays, and îlets alternate with some really splendid white sandy beaches. The relief is not very high but tormented and is strewn with hills or "mornes". The vegetation is more typical with coconut trees, trees of the traveller.
