To survive the drynesses, cyclones, and other tropical bad weather left only little time to St Barth during the last centuries to develop an elaborated cultural tradition.

The local arts and crafts is however very present: one finds small houses 'cases' similar to doll's houses, local boats very coloured, as well as objects plaited with latanier (a tropical tree). Music was not neglected and groups were formed to play a local music and to play during the shows concerning the life of the island.

It is sure that if there was a show on arts and crafts from 1659 to the XXth century, you could only find objects made in the last 20 years and only a few created by natives of the island.

Thus the art and the artists, just like the salmon, were imported to satisfy the new way of life which has settled in the island for a few years.
Three cultural events must be noted: The annual Festival of Music, the annual Festival of Caribbean Film, and the Gastronomical Festival.
