Saint Martin

Culture

The opening on the United States, which marked the second half of the XXth century, involved an Americanization of Saint-Martin culture. During many years, the contacts were more numerous with this giant than with the island of Guadeloupe.
Moreover, for many of Saint-Martin inhabitants, the first language is not French or Dutch, but English. Moreover, the massive arrival of immigrants and tourists contribute to keep this West-Indian island different from others.

One cannot thus speak any more about an only creole culture, although it was the case formerly, but rather about a multiethnic culture.
