Saint Martin

Saint Martin

Saint Martin, tiny island located in the north of the chain of the Lesser Antilles, astonishes by its diversity.
With a French and a Dutch part, land of welcome for the West-Indian immigrants of the neighbouring islands and other regions, presents a complex face, where cultures are various. This unproductive land, flooded by the sun, caused the poverty of many farmers who worked the lands in the last centuries. But this sun which shines day after day is today, with its fine sandy beaches of an exceptional beauty, one of its main richness.

From the elegant Marigot to the vibrating city of Philipsburg, while passing by the splendid beaches bordered by the Caribbean Sea or the Atlantic Ocean, one can only be charmed by so many treasures on a so small territory, about 88 km2 large and divided between two countries, France occupying 55 km2, and Dutchland, 33 km2. It is one of the smallest territories divided between two States.
You will be able to pass from one country to the other in a few minutes and without crossing customs.

The island presents a very steep relief, the center of the island is covered of mountains which are up to 411 m (1235 feet) high (Paradise Peak). On the sometimes stripped sides of these hills little sprinkled by the rains, a few modest houses, sometimes luxurious enough to receive people on holiday, coming from everywhere.
All around this land, the coasts are punctuated by beaches where holiday villages and large cities alternate (Marigot, Grand Case and Philipsburg).
